Ebony allowed herself to smile as Riddick reared; acting more like a young colt than a fully grown stallion. She didn’t mind his childish behavior however because she knew that he had needed this. She couldn’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to all of a sudden see after years in the dark and she did not want to imagine it. All she cared about now was that Riddick could see. As he cantered to her she made sure to not flinch, even though the running towards her put her on edge. She kept the smile in place and allowed the happy Knight to run up to her as he wished; for she did not want to ruin the mood that he was in.
As Riddick nipped at her muzzle, she returned the gesture. Even though it had been only a short time since her enslavement, she was starting to be able to do more than she ever had before. Never had she thought that she would allow a stallion so close to her, and here Riddick was nipping at her muzzle and forelock. It was truly like a dream. ”It is understandable that you would continue to be a Knight Riddick. After all, I would not want Styrr to take your eyes from you…not when you just got them.” She said as she looked up at him. Even though she knew that it could be dangerous for him to be a knight, she knew that it was the only way that he could continue to see. If he were to renounce his rank as a knight, Styrr would take his sight from him and then Riddick would never see again. Ebony knew that she had to make sure that Riddick kept his sight; no matter what.
Even though the thought of losing him in battle was hard for her to take, Ebony knew that she had to allow him to do this. She knew that if she were to continue this companionship with Riddick, she would have to become stronger herself; both in body and in mind. Without being strong, she would be nothing but a liability to Riddick and could possible get him killed. That would not due in her eyes. She would just have to suck it up and deal with her fears; her inner demons that kept her in the dark. The wind pricked her mane gently as she listened to the stallion’s words. His question hit her hard. Would she be able to stand near him…forever?
When she first came into his company, she would have not been able to answer that. She was far too leery of others to even consider being with someone for a day; let alone a lifetime. Now that she had had some time to think and be around Riddick, however, her answer was much different. It was stronger. ”Riddick, no matter what the future may hold or what obstacles lie ahead, know that I will always stand by you. You have changed me in ways that I could not evened image were possible and I know that, with your help, I will continue to become a stronger, better, mare.” She said honestly as she reached up and nipped at his cheek. Her statement was one of determination and loyalty. She would always be loyal to Riddick and would follow where he went, no matter what the dangers would be.
Ebony lunged towards Riddick as he cried out in pain. A worried neigh escaped her throat as she tried to figure out what was wrong. After a moment it hit her. The sun was down. Styrr had said that after today, Riddick would only be able to see at night or in dark spaces. ’Styrr knew how much pain it would be to have Riddick’s eyes switch over…yet he said nothing about it.’ She thought a bit angry as she kneeled near Riddick; trying to help him with her presence. She winced at his thrashing, not being able to even understand the pain that he was going through. She couldn’t help him. All she could do was watch and hope that it would be over soon. It pained her to see that he was in so much pain but she was unable to do anything about it. It felt wrong to her.
Once it was clear that most of the pain had subsided, Ebony stood and backed a bit away from him; giving him space so he could get used to his new sight…whatever that new sight was like. As Riddick looked at her she managed a small, but slightly worried, smile. She was still afraid that he was in pain. That worry was put aside when he said that she was even more beautiful with his new sight. She ducked her head in embarrassment as his words reached her. She had never considered herself beautiful and was surprised that Riddick thought she was.
When he spoke of trying out his new eyes she smiled a bit wider. She could tell that he liked his new sight, even though she did not understand why. She simply nodded in agreement to what he was saying, finding a relief that she could nod and he would see that she had. It would be strange to get used to, but she felt that she could learn to very easily. As he nipped at her withers she placed her head against his neck, enjoying his comfort and warmth. She stifled a small yawn that threatened to leave her muzzled as he mentioned getting some more rest. She was still tired from their journey, but she had not been able to realize it really with all of the things that had been happening. ”Yeah that may be a good idea. Neither of us got to really rest before Styrr came forth and it’s been a long day.” She said as she rubbed her face gently on his neck. She enjoyed the fact that she was getting so used to touching him. She wandered back over to where she and Riddick had been laying before and then turned to face him; waiting for him to come forth as well. She knew that they would both need their energy for whatever came ahead.
