Ebony stood quietly in the larger Roaming pens. Being a submissive mare, she was placed in these pens for good behavior. This really did not matter to her, however, because the Roaming pens where the same as the Holding pens to her. It was still entrapment. Even though she did not wish to be a slave, she would do nothing to fight back or run; it wasn't in her nature. Maybe it had been once, but not any longer. Every since her last master broke her, she had basically given up the will to fight. That didn't mean she had a bad out look on like though. Deep inside, she still hoped and wished for someone to buy her who was kind and understanding. The chances of that were, of course, low but she kept dreaming. She sighed and starting eating the little bit of grass that was there; knowing that in a couple of hours she would be placed back in the holding pens.

Luxanna
Some poisons blind you, while others open your eyes... Quivering slightly, Luxanna's rump pressed firmly against the rails of a fence. There were many strangers about, a fact she knew with certainty. The filly could smell them, hear them, but could identify no one. They were all foreign, and she was undeniably frightened. When the slaves were rotated from the holding to roaming pens she had become separated from her mother, and knew nothing of her whereabouts. Mistaking someone for her mother, she had been nipped harshly on the cheek and left on her own. A little bit of blood trickled there now, all be it not serious it did manage to sting slightly. "Momma?" She bleated quietly, her head so low it almost touched the ground. That was the only thing familiar to her now, as it was flat and unmoving and wouldn't harm her. As for anything else? She couldn't be sure. Luxanna couldn't read body language like others because of her eyes, and would never know if she were crossing an imaginary line unless she was told. All of the voices, while far away and distance to most others, swam into her mind as a tangled mess. Why couldn't she hear her mother calling for her? Was she really that far away? Luxanna couldn't believe it. What if she was never found? All of these question troubled her and sent shivers throughout her tiny body. "Momma?" Another call, searching for any hint that she may not be completely alone.

Ebony was chopping on grass when a voice caught her attention. 'Mamma?' She thought as she raised her head and looked for the speaker. To her, the voice sounded young and frightened. When she found the voice and felt a stab in her heart. She seen a little three month filly standing close to the railing. Ebony could see that there was blood on the cheek of the filly and it saddened her. It always pained her to see a young one in such a state. It was then that Ebony's motherly instincts took over and she decided that she needed to try to help the filly if she could. Slowly, as to not startle her further, Ebony walked over to Luxanna. Her head was more towards the ground and her ears forward; showing that she was not a threat. When she was close enough to talk, but not so close that Luxanna would run, she spoke softly. "Hello Little one..." Her words were polite and welcoming; hoping that the filly would not consider her a threat.

Taking a step forward, the young filly momentarily considered searching for her mother. She couldn't be too far, right? Suddenly, though, the touch of a rock on her hoof startled her into stillness once more. How could she wander any where, unable to see where she was headed? Lifting her head sharply and perking her ears so as to hear better, Luxanna paid close attention to whomever was approaching her. This stranger didn't resemble her mother, perhaps slightly in the lightness in her voice. Still, someone unknown was still a cause for worry when she was on her own. "Who's there?" Pressing firmly into the fence, it was the only comfort she had in that moment. "Don't come any closer, my momma will be here soon." At least, she hoped so. Hopefully, if this mare meant her any harm that would thwart them some what. Luxanna refused to believe that her mother would just leave her there, especially considering her condition. Not as naive as she may have appeared however, the filly found herself swiftly switching tactics. "Please don't hurt me..." Luxanna didn't know if this mare knew she was blind. The bright blue in her eyes were the mark of it, but the filly didn't know what the color blue even was. All she was aware of was what she heard and smelled, and neither of those things comforted her now.

Daggers clashed onto the ground. Orbs dancing all around as she looked around at the Holding Pens. Her thoughts running wild as she had lost Luxanna. Her mind running wild of just what might be happening to her. Watching the sight of her daughter being ripped to shreds just like she almost was. Gazing all around at the Pens without a thought in her mind of where she was and then there she was. Scared an nervious of her surrounds. Her orbs looking at her and then locked onto an ebony mare who was walking towards her. Her thorns pinned upon her skull as she charged towards her daughter. "LUX!" She screamed as she ran to her.
Pillars slowing as she came up beside Lux. Her head low to the ground and her thorns pinned tight on her skull. "Don't even think about it mare." She said with her thorns pinned. Knowing what happens to foals when they are left in the pens by their selves. Most of them were killed or other mares would snatch them up for their own use. THough that was not going to happen to Lux. Alina was not going to let any harm come to her youngster. She loved her to dearly to watch her young blind filly get harmed. Alina planned for her to grow up and become a beautiful mare that would show all slaves that they can move up in the world no matter what their lives were like and even if they have a disability.

Ebony was taken back a bit as a mare charged her way in between her and Lux. She hadn't even really spoken to the filly and be was getting others being aggressive. The calm mare shook her head slightly and sighed. She was never one to harm another; especially a young one. "I was in no way going to harm your little one." Ebony said quietly, her voice peaceful for being in a slave situation. "I simply heard her call out for her mother and was going to ask if I could help to find her...that is all. I am in no way a threat to either of you." The slave mare said honestly. In all of her life, she never tried to get into a situation that could cause a fight and if the situation occurred, then she would try to resolve the issue before it got out of hand. Her ears were forward and head low in a sign of respect and assurance to the mare and her foal.

The voice of her mother met her like an oasis would a starving creature. Relief swam into her heart, and she was instantly far more comfortable than she was before. Even though Alina was acting hostile towards this stranger, Luxanna was confident in her mothers ability to keep them both safe. "Mamma!" A call of realization. Leaning into her mothers side, she reached up with her small muzzle to touch her mother's whither. Gingerly touching the place where the older mare's mane thinned, Lux could only find reassurance there. While it may have been a downside to her mother's appearance, the filly knew only that it was unique to the one she trusted more than anyone else. Standing still, Luxanna was able to think more clearly now that she wasn't alone. In the ways of those her age, curiosity was beginning to sink in. Who was this stranger, and what was their story? What things had they seen? Luxanna relished stories, mostly because they described things she could never experience herself. A lot of adjectives were unknown to her, especially words related to color, but that didn't stop her from imagining things nonetheless. Still, Luxanna kept quiet. Her ears perked themselves forward curiously as she listened to this encounter between the two older females.

Alina looked at the mare before her. Listening to the words of the mare as her head stayed down to the ground. Everything came into her mug as she said that she was not going to harm any of them. Which she did not believe, but the only time that she knew that for once she shouldn't listen to herself was when she heard the sound of Luxanna's voice. She let off a soft sigh as she lifted her head up slowly and perked her thorns up high in the air. Giving off a soft smile when she felt her touch upon her pelt. Letting her head slowly turn around and touch the young one gently. "My beautiful little girl." She said as she nuzzled her daughter gently.
Her head slowly coming around and gazing back over towards the other mare. "I'm sorry for my actions. I've just seen so many foals being harmed in the places I've been moved to. That I don't know what I would do if she got harmed." She said as she looked at the mare then turned and looked at Lux with a big smile upon her mug. Letting her muzzle slowly move over to her so that Lux could touch and find where her skull was at. Then she turned and looked at the mare before her. "So what is your name?" She asked as she looked at the ebony mare before her. Shifting her figure so that she had Lux close to her and was able to keep a close eye on her and what was going on around them.

Ebony listened to the mare in understanding. Having been a slave for a long time; the six year old mare knew all to well what could happen to a foal in the slave areas. These sorts of things troubled her the most as she always had a fondness for young ones. "That is understandable. I have been a slave for many years and know all to well what can happen to an unattended foal." She said as she sighed a bit. Her memories of such events were certainly not pleasant, but she dealt with them none the less. "That's why I was walking over to your little one in the first place. It pains me to see any horse in pain; much less a little one." She added truthfully. She smiled on the inside as she seen the warm exchange between mother and daughter. It brought back happier times of when her own family was together. Her mother, father, brother, and uncle shared the warm sense of love that the pair before her now showed. Of course, most of her family was long gone now; either sold or dead so she had no hope of being reunited with them now. Ebony silently pushed away the dark thoughts and focused on the brighter side; a mother and daughter were back together.
'That's what is important.' She reminded herself happily. At the other mare's question she smiled friendly. "I am called Ebony...and what are your names?" She asked politely. She was curious about them just as they were, probably, curious about her.

The filly had never been a eyewitness to the horrors of slavery, but she had heard them. Shrieks of siblings being sold separetly, and even the painful sounds of horses being beaten. These sounds frightened her, simply because she doubted some times her mothers ability to protect them. Those nights were met with bad dreams, but Lux's dreams were not like those who had the ability to see. Hers were vague outlines, blank but different shades of what she was able to make out in the world. The sounds were loud, and most objects were only identifiable because her mind knew what it was making up. Despite these thoughts, a smile checked itself on her face as she stepped forward towards the mare. "I am Luxanna. But you can call me Lux." she added cheerfully, reaching out with her muzzle towards the stranger. She wished to touch her. It was only in that way she could learn to identify someone, with the exception of their scent. In the filthiness of the slave pens, though, it was almost impossible to distinguish one from the other. "This is my Mamma, Alina." Luxanna didn't see the harm in being friendly now, as she viewed Ebony as a potential friend.

Her orbs looked at this mare that was before her. Shifting her weight as she listened to the words that she was speaking towards her. Hearing that she had been in the slave part of life for years now. Just like Alina had been. Glad that she had found someone else who had found the same life style that they live. Hearing that with what was going on was why she had brought herself over to Luxanna. Which kind of put a smile upon her mug that she would do something like that to a foal that she did not even know. "Glad to know that someone else knows what it is like to be a slave. Just glad to see that you are all together in once peice. I mean look at me. I have no tail and not even something to call a mane from all of this. Just glad I could keep her nearby so she would not have the same fate that I did." She said with a soft smile as she looked back to Lux. So glad to have that little chestnut filly as a child of her own.
Her thorns perking forwards as she heard her speak her name and then ask for our names. Then my thorns quickly turned as I heard the sound of Lux speaking towards the mare. Which brought a bigger smile onto my face as I was glad to see that she was trying to get to know those that she could not even see and unsure even if she could trust. "Very good introduction, darling." She said with a soft smile upon her mug as she turned and looked to the other mare after seeing that Lux was trying to reach out for the other mare known as Ebony.
"She is trying to get your scent and know your identity just incase we lose one another and she can find you were ever." She said with a soft smile upon her mug. So glad to see that Lux had such an od way of getting to know others that Alina wsas just so very impressed with her learning this herself.

Ebony nodded as she listened to Alina's story. She could understand what Alina had gone through because she had experienced it herself. The only difference was that Ebony's scars were covered my her hair and that she did not have a foal to care for. Sadness had come over her at that thought. How many babies had she been forced to miscarry? That she did not know. She shook her head at her thoughts and brought herself back to the present. "Yes being a slave is not easy...but it makes you appreciate so many more things." She replied easily as she smiled. She listened to Luxanna's introduction. As Alina explained her daughter's way of greeting, Ebony simply nodded and reached her nose out so that Lux could touch it. She did not know why this was her greeting, but she did respond in kind to it.

Reaching out towards her, Luxanna moved a bit too close and ended up bumping noses with the older mare. Giggling, Lux stepped back and smiled in her direction. "I can't see you, but I bet you're really pretty!" She laughed cheerfully, the compliment as sincere as it could be. The mare had a sweetness about her, and that was enough beauty for the small equine. Luxanna saw the good in everyone, even though she really couldn't see anything at all. As young as she was and never to be kept occupied for long, the filly turned to her mother and nipped her whither playfully, jumping up so that her leg rested over her shoulder. Even in the darkness that was the slave pens, Lux was still just a child and no doubt acted like one. As she fell back to the ground, the foal bumped her mothers shoulder with her forehead. Nudging her as she began to walk around in circles, the filly did what she could to entertain herself. Unable to run off and find her own means of play, Lux spent most of her time bothering her mother. Maybe now, though, Ebony would play with her some times. The filly couldn't wait.

Alina smiled as she turned and looked over to Lux as she spoke her words. Oh how she was glad to see the sight of her little one enjoying everything around her and even making a friend in the process of it all. With her mind falling into a darker place in her mind before she felt the nipping on her withers from Luxanna's mug. Turning and looking at her with a smile upon her mug as she watched her figure coming up and her leg resting across that back of Alina. With her head wrapping around and nibbling on her small pillars before moving her head and watching as Lux fell back to the ground onto all fours and begin to seem to head butt her shoulder slightly. Loving all the attention since it seemed to give away all the bad things that crept into her mind. "Crazy how all your happiness seems to brighten everyone's day, Lux." She said with a big smile upon her mug. Feeling the cool wet feeling of her tear rolling down her cheek. Wishing that she did not bring her into the slave life. For she felt like a horrible mother for doing this and yet she had done it. Though Lux seemed to be able to learn the things she would need to know since she was blind since birth.
