Cedar
Cedar laughed again, "Well no, I guess your just gonna have to grow big and strong then, huh?" Then Cedar continued to splash Ace, enjoying seeing the joy on the colt's face. This was probably the first time Ace had ever played in his life. The gruella stallion was glad that he was part of that. The knight knew it would be hard though, especially when he joined a herd and went to full time duty. But he would make it work.
Then Cedar suddenly stopped, he smelled something. It was a mare. He instantly looked around and saw a beauitful young mare. She looked scared and had scars but Cedar didn't think she was a slave. Cedar moved in between the mare and Ace though. "Hello there, what are you scared of? It is just a noble knight and a newborn foal. We will not hurt you, my dear. Do you want to meet Ace?" |

[glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace laughed as Cedar continued to splash him. "Yeah...then I will be able to splash YOU." He said happily as he jumped around in the water. Ace looked up when Cedar stopped splashing. He looked around Cedar to see a mare standing before them. Being the curious colt that he was, he moved so that he was beside the Stallion rather than behind him. He looked at the mare and smiled brightly. [glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze looked at Cedar and nodded. Slowly she took a step forward and then another; until she was only a few feet away from them. "I am sorry that I intruded on you both...I was just looking for some water." She said as she took a quick look behind her. There was no Talon so far, which was good for her. She needed to get a drink and take off again before he found her. She hated this running, she felt like a slave when she was not. Though, she knew that if Talon found her...she mind as well be a slave. |

The stallion chuckled at Ace, nodding in agreement. Then the mare came and he felt Ace move from behind him to beside him. Ha, boy would he make a good knight if he wanted to. Cedar thought to himself.
He listened to the mare as she said all she was looking for was water and apologized for interferring. "No, you were not interrupting. You are perfectly fine. Do you want to join us, you look scared. I'm a knight, I can protect you from anything that you are scared of." Cedar suddenly wished that the mare would stay, he was already attracted to her and having a mare around would really help Ace. |

[glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace looked at the mare and then at Cedar. He was wanting to play in the water with the unknown mare and Cedar. The black and white paint took a step closer to Blaze, wanting to see her. He had not see another mare up close since his mother, so he had the urge to see Blaze. [glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze looked at Cedar and the Ace. She couldn't help but smiled at the colt. She could tell that he was very curious about her. "I won't harm you, little one...you can up closer." She said as she sensed that Ace wanted to comer closer to her. She then looked at Cedar. Though she was still nervous about him, she felt as if she could trust him. When she heard that he was a knight she couldn't help but feel a bit safer. "Thank you...but I don't know...he could be here any minute and I wouldn't want to place the colt in danger." She said, but she moved forward still. She was now where she could reach and touch Cedar with her muzzle if she wished it. |

Cedar
The greulla stallion smiled and carefully didn't move a single inch when the mare started talking to Ace. He knew Ace was by far intrigued and interested in this mare. Maybe the foal would actually have a chance at a normal life if this mare would take him. It was rare but it did happen sometimes. But that thought made Cedar much more sad then he would have expected. Already he had beocme attched to the black and white colt. And it would have been wrong for him to ask the colt to stay with him, plus with his duties as a knight, it was only a matter of time before the two went their separate ways, right?
Cedar's ears pricked up, suddenly alert for any danger. This mare sounded like she was fleeing for her life against a stallion that would do anything to harm her. "I can protect you both. I vow to do just that, maiden." Cedar used the old tongue, the one that meant if a knight used it, he always had to keep that vow. No matter what. If he didn't do any and all means necessary to protect them now, then the Gods would be after his hide. "Who is chasing you?" |

[glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace smiled and looked at the mare, but he still kept close to Cedar. Yeah, he like the mare already, but he also like Cedar as well. He knew that he could have been dead by now if it had not been for the Stallion's decision to help him. For that, Ace couldn't just forget. [glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze nodded, hearing the old tongue. She understood what he had just done because her father had explained that to her. She realized that the vow could not be broken unless he wanted the wrath of the Gods upon him. "The one I am fleeing from is a King named Talon. He's an abusive and cruel Stallion that enjoys the suffering of others." She flinched as she remembered. She really hated that Stallion. She wished she could go home and be protected, but realized that that was impossible. |

Cedar [/color][/size] Cedar noticed how Ace was getting closer to Blaze but also continuing to stay close to him. He guessed that this answered his question of doubt. The foal hopefully would stay with him for a little bit longer. Though it would be best if this mare took him, or any mare for that matter. Though Cedar suddenly realized that he wouldn't be able to let Ace go.
Cedar listened to the mare intently, "Talon, is he a new King? I have never heard of him. Though he seems just like any other King nowadays. What is unusual is that he abuses his nobles. Not a lot of Kings do that." The stallion decided to take another step closer to the mare, "My name is Cedar, maiden, it is a pleasure to meet you." [/blockquote] |

[glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace smiled as he looked up at Cedar. He knew that he would be sticking with the Stallion, even if this mare decided to leave. He already trusted Cedar, and he didn't want to chance. Even though it would be nice to have a mother like figure around, he wasn't going to leave his new firend. [glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze nodded. "Yes he is new...and I was GOING to be his wife. That was until he showed me what he was truly like." She said as she touched one of the more recent scars on her neck. "He even managed to convince my family that the abuse he was giving was my fault." She said as she shook her head. She remembered how her family reacted. From the moment that Talon had convinced them, they had hated her. The threw her out and told her they never wanted to see her again. She felt horrible about that, because she loved her family very much. She was pulled out of her thoughts as she heard that Stallion introduce himself. "Hello, Sir Cedar, my name is Blaze...it's a pleasure to meet you as well." She replied to him. |

"No one should be beating up on mares, even if they are slaves, which you are clearly not. You look like you were born noble and I guess if your family did not believe you and took his side over yours.... then they are not your family anymore." Cedar spoke clearly and carefully, but as kind as he was trying to be, Blaze needed to hear this. Blaze was definately an outcast of her family now and being a knight, Cedar could only protect her against Talon. He couldn't kill unless it was complete self defense or a foal was in danger. Some knights, like himself tried to encompass mares as well. It was lucky that Blaze was a noble because if she was not then Cedar would not have been able to offer her his protection at all.
"Ace, the first rule of becoming a knight is to always treat others with respect and kindness. Physical harm should not come from your hooves or teeth against mares or foals." Cedar looked at Ace carefully, "The rules I am going to teach you are however no longer practiced bcause they come from the Old Code. Knights nowadays seem to think they can do whatever they want. They are not true knights, understand?" |

[glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace looked up at Cedar, his eyes showing the awe that he felt, and he nodded. "Why would anyone wanna do such a thing?" He asked as he shivered the thought of hurting a mare or a foal like himself made him cringe. When Cedar mentioned that Knights no longer followed the Old Code, Ace tilted his head to the side in confusion. "If Knights do whatever they want...then why do they want to be one at all? Knights are supposed to protect others, aren't they?" He asked as he looked at Cedar. He didn't understand why others would make their own rules instead of following the original ones. [glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze nodded, her eyes shown with sadness. She knew that Cedar's words were true, but it was still hard to hear them all the same. "Yes...I know. They had made that quite clear when they told me never to return home." She knew that had been only one other sad about her being forced out; her father. She had always been close to her father and when she was told to leave, she had seen genuine sadness in his eyes. That was what kept her going, knowing that no matter what the rest of her family thought of her; that her father still cared and loved her. "That is all behind me now...Talon is my main concern. Even since I left he's been following me, stalking if you will. I haven't been able to rest in a least a week, for fear of him catching up with me." She said. As she spoke her eyes finally showed the tiredness she had been feeling. |

Cedar [/size][/color] Hearing the awe and concentration in the newborn foal, Cedar was very pleased that already Ace was showing Knight qualities and interest in following his hoofprints. "The knights now are only in it for the power. Knights are right below Kings and Queens in the herd ranks. Then the nobles and finally the slaves. Knights are only after pleasing the King and Queen now, not doing their duty by protecting the weak, the young, and the old."
The gruella stallion simply nodded at Blaze, seeing the saddness in her eyes it made his heart ache that he had caused her to face the truth. Cedar wanted to take it back now, this mare had been through so much already. He wanted nothing but to help her and keep Ace by his side, the silly colt. Cedar finally moved more then a step, seeing the fatigue all throughout the mare's body, Cedar walked right up to her. He touched her muzzle with his, "You can rest now, I will keep watch. You have my word that you will be safe, Ace as well."
Cedar looked at Ace, "How are you feeling, young one? Are you ready for a nap yet? You've had a big day today." He said with warmth and pure soft kindness for the foal. [/blockquote] |

[glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze smiled tiredly as Cedar touched his muzzle with her own. She looked at him and nodded. "Thank you...I really appreciate your help, Sir Cedar." She said as she used his Knight title. Even though she was away from her home, she still held respect for those stationed above her. She knew that she would be safe to rest, as long as the Stallion knight was nearby. Blaze moved slightly and brushed her head against Cedar's neck. She was not nearly as nervous around him as she had been before. For that she was very grateful. After a moment she removed her head from him and went to get a drink of water. She sighed as she felt her throat get a bit less sore, thanks to the water. After she was done, she walked a bit away from the sore and laid down; still making sure that Cedar was in clear sight. [glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace shook his head. "That's wrong for them to do that..." He said simply. He watched as Blaze accepted Cedar's offer for protection and rest. He was glad that she was staying with them. Maybe she would stay for a long time. Ace hoped so. He looked back at Cedar as the Stallion spoke of rest. "I'm not ready for a nap...I'm not-" He was cut off by a sudden yawn. "...tired." He finished as he stopped yawning. The colt was tired, but like all children he did want to sleep yet. |

Cedar
The Knight watched the smaller mare accept his offer and move to the water to get a drink. She was actually quite beautiful. Cedar swiveled his ears to listen to Ace, giving a very slight chuckle as the colt tried to fight away his sleepiness. His nose picked up everything, his ears caught everything, and his eyes stayed on both the mare and the foal. In his gentle voice, Cedar replied to Ace, "Sleep young one. I will need your help when you wake and I need you to be strong. Can you do that for me?" What he said was true in a sense that he didn't want the foal thinking he couldn't do anything to help but the knight himself didn't actually need much help.
It was going to be a long night but nothing he couldn't handle. Cedar moved away from both Blaze and Ace slightly and stood watch over both like the stallion and knight that he was. His thoughts ran like the pounding of his hooves in a good gallop with the wind. The young horse was already falling for these two horses that went beyond duty. Cedar sighed slightly and lifted his nose to catch the scents on the wind as he waited for them to wake. |

[glow=purple,2,300]Blaze[/glow] Blaze fell asleep quickly from the sheer amount of exhaustion that had overcome her. She had ran far during the hot day and had been practically fallen asleep standing. After a couple of hours the mare woke. Her head shot up in worry as she looked around. She had had a nightmare about Talon finding her while she had been asleep and it scared her to know that could very well happen. She did not know how close the cruel stallion was or what he would do once he found her and, to be honest, she really did not want to know. 'What would happen to little Ace if Talon came around here? Or Cedar? I just wish to find somewhere safe...is that too much to ask?' She thought to herself as she stood carefully and looked to where Cedar was standing. [glow=red,2,300]Ace[/glow] Ace looked and Cedar and then nodded his little black and white head. Slowly trotting over to Blaze, he laid down near her. He was close enough that Cedar could watch them both at the same time; but not too close as to make it so Blaze could not get up if she wanted to. Laying on his side; as smiled to himself. 'I hope that Cedar, Blaze, and I can stay together...maybe they can be my family...' He thought a moment before he fell asleep. |

Cedar
The cedar smelling stallion dutifully watched over them while they slept, keeping an eye and ear out for anything that was going to happen. Nothing did until he heard Blaze rustle behind him. Cedar knew instantly that she was upset and scared, he could smell her fear scent. He waited for her to move closer to him and was relieved to see that she hadn't woken Ace up. "What's wrong? Everything is ok, your safe." Cedar spoke reassuringly, lightly tapping his right front hoof on the ground. |
